“Lest We Forget: Black Soldiers in the Civil War” by Jeff O’Den
The history of the Civil War from the Black experience is the emphasis of this program and features Michigan’s only Black Civil War regiment while revealing many interesting points of history. Jeff’s presentation follows a timeline that explores the early history of Blacks in American from 1619 to 1865 and interesting and untold true stories of notable contributions by Black Americans before and during the Civil War. His lecture also includes never before seen drawings and photographs taken before and/or during the Civil War, interviews with noted scholars, historians and experienced (in-character) Civil War period re-enactors with intriguing stories and portrayals that make this program truly unique. An Emmy-nominated producer, Jeff has spent the last five-years producing this and other documentaries about Blacks in the Civil War. His research has taken him to the Library of Congress, the National Archives and state archives and other reliable sources in preparation for the150th anniversary celebration of the American Civil War starting next year in 2011. Jeff’s style of lecturing “is dramatic.” His documentaries have also been called “docudrama.” So, if you’re interested in black American history that’s never been told, you won’t want to miss this lecture and video presentation.
